About Ayman Damak — 15 Years of Domestic Canary Experience
I am Ayman Damak. I have kept and bred domestic canaries for 15 years — about half of my life. This website is where I share what that hands-on experience has taught me.
My interest in domestic canaries
Canaries have been part of my daily life for 15 years. Over that time I have cared for birds through every part of the year: settling new birds in, keeping cages clean and routines steady, watching birds through the annual molt, preparing pairs for the breeding season and raising young birds until they are independent.
Hands-on experience keeping and breeding canaries
Keeping canaries for many years teaches you things that are hard to learn from a book: how an individual bird behaves when it is settled and when something has changed, how pairs respond to the lengthening days of spring, why a routine matters so much to a small bird, and how much difference good preparation makes before a breeding season begins.
On this site, when I share something from my own keeping or breeding, it appears in a clearly labelled box called “From Ayman's Breeding Experience”. Everything else is general husbandry information, checked against reputable sources where possible.
Why I created this website
A lot of canary information online is repetitive, contradictory or written by people who have never kept the birds. I wanted to build a calm, practical resource that answers the questions canary owners actually ask — from “why has my canary stopped singing?” to “when do chicks leave the nest?” — in plain language, without exaggeration.
What you can expect from this site
- Practical guides on daily care, food, housing, behavior, molting, breeding and chicks.
- Variety guides that explain where a canary type comes from and what it is like to keep — with uncertainty noted when sources disagree.
- Honest separation between personal experience and general reference information.
- Visible publication and update dates, and a corrections policy if something needs fixing.
- No fake reviews, testimonials, awards or credentials.
Personal experience is not veterinary advice
I am an experienced canary keeper and breeder. I am not a veterinarian, and I do not hold veterinary or scientific qualifications. This site does not diagnose illness or recommend medication. If your canary looks unwell — fluffed up for long periods, sitting on the cage floor, breathing with effort, not eating, or injured — please contact a qualified avian veterinarian promptly. You can read more in the disclaimer and editorial policy.
